A mug collaboration with Julienne of puka.tutis.pottery on Instagram. Julienne created the snake mug, sent it to me unfinished, then I painted the snake and glazed! This is the first snake I’ve ever painted! It has inspired me to create an entire snake collection next!

The handle of the mug is a sculpted snake, coiled and curving with carved scales that give it a striking, tactile texture. The surface of the snake is glittering, catching the light with a subtle shimmer that enhances its sinuous shape, like sunlight glinting off obsidian. It’s both a functional grip and a dramatic sculptural element — visually powerful and slightly enchanted.

The exterior is glazed in a bright, flowing blue gloss, rich and vibrant, like cascading water or a clear desert sky. The glaze moves smoothly over the mug’s surface and flows around the handle and the painted illustration, allowing for visual depth and layering. The high gloss finish creates a sense of fluid motion, reinforcing the natural grace of the snake's form.

Wrapped around the mug is a rainbow-painted snake illustration, rendered in fine, colorful detail. Its scales are painted in a spectrum of vivid hues, each tone blending into the next like refracted light on a prism. The painted snake feels alive and in motion, slithering across the surface in contrast to the dark, sculpted one at the handle — a harmony of duality: light and shadow, texture and color, form and image.

Inside, the mug is glazed in a crystalized jade green, rich and earthy with speckled and crystalline formations that give it depth and sparkle. The color evokes mossy stones, jungle foliage, or serpent scales glinting beneath water — a perfect complement to the brightness outside and a hidden world within.
