7. Dark Hummingbird mug

7. Dark Hummingbird mug
The body is crafted from a dark black recycled clay, which gives the piece a grounding, earthen presence and a subtle texture that peeks through the glazes. Over this dark surface flows a blue gloss glaze, smooth and reflective, cascading across the exterior and framing the details.
Gothic window carvings on either side of the mug add a sense of architectural depth and mystery. These windows are filled with a vibrant, rich red glaze, bold and fiery against the cool blue — like stained glass glowing from within a cathedral at dusk.
Around the base and along the handle, small flower and bow appliqués add a touch of softness and whimsy, creating a delicate contrast to the strong lines of the windows and the dark body of the mug. These sculptural additions feel like nature slowly reclaiming an old building — graceful, subtle, and alive.
The centerpiece of the design is a finely painted hummingbird in flight, caught in a moment of stillness mid-hover. The bird is rendered with care and detail — wings outstretched, body in motion — and seems to dance along the surface, adding energy and lightness to the moody, gothic frame around it.
Inside, the mug is glazed in a creamy tan that breaks beautifully over the black clay. This interior feels warm, natural, and slightly unpredictable — a quiet contrast to the drama of the exterior.
