This collection was inspired by the many people in my DMs asking for more owl mugs! Y’all, I am happy to announce I am over the horrible glaze mishap that happened to my barn owl collection back in 2022. I unfortunately, started that year off with a bad bang, as in, banging the hammer into half of my owl collection. Not only did I have a kiln disaster, when the restock dropped, I also had a website malfunction. Resulting in a few people sending me extra opinionated messages. So, you can say I was scarred from owls. On a nicer note - here we are! New, improved, with lessons learned.
I knew for a fact I wanted to create more popular bird mugs from the past. Hummingbirds, owls, and new raven mugs, which are highly requested amongst the crowd. When brainstorming ideas, I was focusing on pastel colors, dreamy flower fields, divine feminine, and gold accents. All I could think of were the old 2000s Barbie movies - Swan Lake, Rapunzel, Princess and the Pauper. These movies had a hold on me as a child. The colors I was experiencing in my head were the same hazy pastel and vibrant pinks of the Barbie movies.
With my new tool obsession of silicone molds, I added lifted applique, giving each piece texture, extra imagery, which brings the magical essence of the Barbie movies to life. The colors, pastels and jewel tones, with bits of gold luster. Flowers cascading around the handles, carvings and patterns surrounding the paintings.
This collection is for my inner child. A princess, prancing through the garden, singing with the birds, with rose colored glasses on. And we lived happily ever after. With a cuppa tea.
